Meet the Board of Trustees

Ted Nichols – President

Member of Environmental Justice

Greetings . . . and thanks for exploring the All Souls web pages! I’m a retired college dean and vice president, dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. I love learning, thinking, exploring, and talking with people about their lives and their beliefs. I learned about Unitarian Universalism in college and am so pleased to have found All Souls in the process of our move from PA to MI a few years ago. As a Board member, I look forward to greeting you, getting acquainted with you, and assisting you with any questions or concerns you may have. Peace and good wishes always to you and yours.

Joseph Kozakiewicz – Vice President

Member of Safety

Hi there—I joined All Souls shortly before Covid times, so I am excited now to have an opportunity to become more actively involved in the church. I am a lifelong churchgoer, but only at All Souls have I felt I belonged to a church whose teachings I could wholeheartedly support and defend. In August 2023, I will begin my 20th year directing a child welfare program for social work and law students at MSU. In my personal time, I enjoy road cycling, opera, jazz, a wide variety of books and movies, and Duolingo, the app that got me through the lockdown and high intensity workouts. My family (wife, seven children, one grandchild) join me in some of these activities, not so much in some others.

Kristyn Vander Zouwen – Trustee

Member of Music and Choir

Hi! I’m Kristyn. I have been a member of All Souls since 2010 and I joined the Board of Trustees in 2021. I am a Social Worker and parent, and joined the BOT because I love this congregation and believe it plays an important and necessary role in our community and larger world. Board of Trustee member starting July 2021.

Barbara W. Brown – Trustee

Member of Finance, Worship, Safety, Human Resources, and Choir

I have been a UU since I found UUism at age 12. I have served several congregations of which I have been a member, as well as our Association and our district/region. Board of Trustee member starting July 2021.

Elizabeth Boessenkool – Trustee

Member of Environmental Justice, Welcoming, and Hospitality

I joined ASCC in 2016.  I am involved in the  Environmental Justice Committee and pre-Covid, also the Hospitality Committee.  My greatest joy at ASCC has been the people I’ve met and the relationships I’ve made. Board of Trustee member starting July 2021.

Cathie Benoit – Trustee

Member of Finance and Environmental Justice

I have been a UU since the age of 10, when my parents found their perfect fit. I am a founding member of this church, bouncing in and out over the years. During Covid I realizes how meaningful this congregation was to me and my well being. A warm and supportive community that I want to serve by being a board member.

Chris Eckman – Trustee

Member of Environmental Justice

My first experience with ASCC was the 2019 Christmas Cantata followed by getting involved with the Environmental Justice team. I joined ASCC in 2022. Becoming a member of the Board is a great opportunity to immerse myself into the community and to learn and grow. I am an experiential learner with great love for diversity in all things. Board of Trustee Member starting July 2023.

Doug Donnell – VP Finance

Miki Harris – Secretary

Member of Religious Education and Choir

I was 8 years old when All Souls was founded. Seeing the effort and love that my parents and their fellow teachers, social workers, advocates, musicians, and community members poured into creating a safe and nurturing congregation inspires me to be an active part now. It was a hard, messy process, made manageable by differing people coming together. I joined the Board in 2023 to contribute to the continuity of our story and encourage intergenerational connections.

Board of Trustees Monthly Meeting Minutes are available for all church members.
